Friday is the last day to download application for the Modern 2.0 affordable live/work units.

I visited the building a couple weeks ago and I think it is beautiful.

Applications are now being accepted for The Modern 2.0 Affordable Live-Work Spaces. The project consists of seven affordable 1-bedroom units and 30 market rate units. Three of the affordable units are accessible.  The affordable sales prices are four units at $172,800 for applicants earning less than 80% of median income and three units at $222,100 for applicants earning less than 100%* of median income. In order to qualify your household income must not exceed:

Wednesday April 13, Thursday April 14, Thursday May 5 from 1 pm – 6 pm;
Saturday April 16, Wednesday April 27, Monday May 2 from 11 am – 4 pm;
Tuesday April 19, Friday May 6 from 4 pm – 8 pm.

    Did you visit these units at the Modern? 2.0 I attended one of the info sessions, and one of the things I noticed was how great the unit I was in would work for a family with a child. There are three separate areas and so a child could have his/her own separate area. I’d be interested to know if you disagree. Don’t let the designations (1 BR/ 2 BR etc) fool you. These units are at least 1,000sf, and they can be built out. I raised my son in a unit that size, and I think in an urban environment with high housing density the supply of larger units is much lower since the demand for any size unit is so high–the market produces smaller units.

    If you don’t like this, however, you might check out the Boston Home Center at DND to get notices about the affordable “family housing” with separate built-out bedrooms. Those programs receive subsidies that allow the developers to build bigger units but still have a financially feasible building project. So far we haven’t been part of an all-artist project with lots of bedrooms in each unit. If we get there I hope you are still on our list. Heidi
